About Us

"Got Tec is a community initiative, based on our founder, Jocelyn Marencik's two passions, community service and computer science."

Got Tec is an acronym for

Gifts of Technology (for) Teachers, Education, and Children

It all began when she noticed the imbalance of technology and computer science education at schools across the Richmond region, and the lack of diversity among students attending technology camps.  In January of 2016, she donated small laptops to two inner-city classrooms. Shortly afterward, she decided to combine her passions of Computer Science and Community Service, and Got Tec Richmond was born.  Got Tec is a community initiative which donates and funds needed technology equipment to under-served and under-funded schools.  Got Tec also organizes and mentors "Learn To Code" Day classes and "Digital Art Advocacy events at the same schools donated to.

"When you combine your passions with your service, it is life-changing for both you and for those you have served."

As a complement to Got Tec, Jocelyn wanted to create a hub for technology news and opportunities for girls and other students in Virginia.  On July 6th, 2018, she started GNAT, which stands for Girls News About Technology, where she shares events and news articles related to Computer Science, Technology, and STEAM.
